- 1. Wednesday 2nd September 1998
Venue:: The Dolly, Oxford
Supporting: ChamferOllie: The first ever Flume gig was an unannounced, low-key support to test our tunes on the unsuspecting public. The reaction, was very positive and we were asked by Chamfer, (a funky, rocky 6-piece explosion) to support them again on Halloween . . .
Set List: On My Own, Easy, Some Time, Sweet, Believe.

- 2. Saturday 31st October 1998
Venue: The Pit, Witney
Supporting: ChamferOllie: Our first official gig at the Pit in Witney was in front of a wild group of Halloween revellers many in fancy dress including a man dressed as a dog who spent most of the evening crawling around on the floor! The venue is quite small and it was good to see so many people dancing and just going mad! A very good night all round with Chamfer doing a cracking headline set.
Set List: On My Own, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, Believe.

- 3. Friday 20th November 1998
Venue: The Pit, Witney
Supporting: OvergroundOllie: We were offered this gig when the original support band pulled out but unfortunately we had no time to promote it. Overground brought a reasonable crowd though and we managed to make some new friends. Overground are best described as country meets indie meets sixties, weird but cool.
Set List: On My Own, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, Believe.

- 4. Wednesday 25th November 1998
Venue: The Alleycat, Reading
Supporting: PullOllie: This turned out to be a really good gig, our best live performance yet. Unfortunately, as a midweek gig, the turn out was not great, even one of the bands advertised (Lizards) didn't turn up! This gave us the chance to give a new song its first live performance. Although rather under-rehearsed we managed to pull it off (pun intended!). Pull did a cool set of melodic rock/pop including one song that began rather like a certain Reef song. You had to raise your hands to them!
Set List: On My Own, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, Provide, Believe.

- 5. Saturday 28th November 1998
Venue: The Pit, Witney
Supporting: Ruf CutOllie: This was another gig that was offered to us as a late replacement for the original support. Keen to play as much as possible we accepted but it was not to be our night. Bob came down with a bad cold the day before and we nearly had to pull out ourselves. Then a few bars into Some Time, disaster struck when one of Bob's guitar strings snapped. Ruf Cut's guitarist proved to be a hero by offering to lend Bob a guitar and put on a new string for him while we carried on playing. So a quick drum and bass interlude later and Some Time started again. By the the beginning of Sweet, Bob had his own guitar back and we started to really flow for the last three songs. Ruf Cut played a set of mostly covers in the R'n'B vein.
Set List: On My Own, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, Believe, Provide.

- 6. Saturday 19th December 1998
Venue: The Waterside Centre, Newbury
Triple Bill with Hepworth and ImplosionOllie: Our first visit to Newbury and a good performance. Hepworth were very good, a three piece that reminded me of the 'Manics' at times. Implosion were a good young band with a girl singer and grunge rock sound.
Set List: On My Own, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, Believe, Provide.

- 7. Saturday 9th January 1999
Venue: The Jericho, Oxford.
Supporting: CallousOllie: Our first gig of 1999 was at the semi-legendary Jericho (at least for the local population!) recently re-opened as a live venue. I felt quite emotional at times. Our performance was excellent and it was a great night. Callous were very heavy in a hardcore punk vein.
Set List: Believe, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 8. Friday 16th February 1999
Venue: The Pit, Oxford.
Supporting: Full Frontal AssaultOllie: A good gig to a small crowd, meaning basically the headlining act. Their frontman made us feel as though we were playing to a full house by dancing around like mad and cheering so much we thought there were loads there. Full Frontal Assault were a 2-piece (Guitar & Keyboard/Samples etc.) doing a hardcore dance thing. I enjoyed them.
Set List: Believe, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 9. Friday 26th February 1999
Venue: The Point, Oxford.
Supporting: MindsurferOllie: This was a fantastic gig supporting the mighty Mindsurfer. Right from the start there was an air of anticipation about this gig perhaps partly due to the woeful band practice we'd had earlier in the week when everything had gone wrong. It was a home town gig that we had had ample time to promote and with Mindsurfer headlining we weren't surprised when the place began to fill out. But there were a few nerves flying about and I didn't think we quite played to our best ability, but on the whole it was a great night and easily our biggest gig yet.
Set List: Believe, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 10. Thursday 25th March 1999
Venue: The Jericho, Oxford.
Supporting: StackOllie: Another good gig supporting a great band, Stack. They're heavy but bouncy and they rock! They included a bass player (Louis) who I've known for years but hadn't seen for a while. Good Lads!
Set List: Believe, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.
Back
- 11. Thursday 24th April 1999
Venue: The Alleycat, Reading.
Playing with: Toploader, Chinki, FlynnOllie: This was a bit of a strange gig. We arrived at the Alleycat to find it resembling a building site and no one really knowing what was going on. Toploader were the main act and were very polished. They've apparently been getting praise from Paul Weller recently and it was easy to see why. From a personal point of view this wasn't the best of gigs. The sound check was rubbish and then I went and broke a string just as we were about to start the first song. Surprisingly though, we did get some good comments afterwards so we couldn't have been all bad!
Set List: Believe, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 12. Thursday 13th May 1999
Venue: The Dolly, Oxford.
The Oxford Punt Gig playing with: X1, Callous, Black CandyOllie: This for me was probably our best gig so far and also one of the most important. We all produced top performances to really do ourselves justice, and went down really well. The place was full and the sound was excellent. All the other bands on the bill impressed me too. X1 started the proceedings in a punky/indie vein. The Flume were second. It was great playing with Callous again who were on third and whose performance surpassed their last gig with us. Black Candy who headlined are like a British 'Rage Against The Machine' and really put in a wild performance matched by a wild crowd. A really great night. Nick even managed to sell his car to one of the members of Callous, Talk about mixing business with pleasure!
Set List: Believe, Some Time, Easy, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 13. Friday 11th June 1999
Venue: The Elm Tree, Oxford.
Supporting: Buster MoveOllie: This was another really good gig. We played a new song called 'Bench' for the first time tonight and it went down really well. Good reactions all round from a medium sized crowd and a good tight first performance at this cool little venue.
Set List: Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 14. Saturday 3rd July 1999
Venue: The Waterside Centre, Newbury.
Support from: Khymera
PicturesOllie: An unusual but satisfying gig. This was our first headline gig. We weren't too sure what to expect as last time we played here there wasn't much of a crowd. This time the crowd was bigger but still by no means heaving. Local band Khymera had brought a few with them and really were strange! For a start their ages ranged from about 10 to 40. The youngster was the lead guitarist, there was a sassy young lady on lead vocals and the oldies made up the rest of the band. Their set consisted mainly of covers ranging from Terrorvision to Van Halen and other guitar gods but instead of straight covers they managed to give every song this really laid back, almost lounge-style feel. It was surreal but I must say totally enjoyable.
Our turn came next and we started with a new song called Infinite. All seemed to be going well but by the end of the song I could see Bob wasn't too happy about something and he announced through the mike before starting the next song 'I feel a bit faint, if I pass out halfway through this next song, can someone call me an ambulance?' Luckily he didn't and we manage to make it through to the last song of the evening without a hitch . . . Then my E string snapped on my bass and I had to make a quick change over while Bob and Nick covered with some intermission music. So plenty of incident and we also met Barry of BURBS who had come down specially from Hertfordshire to see the Flume live. Nice one mate!Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

15. Friday 16th July 1999
Venue: The Pit, Witney.
Support from: Five Mile DriveOllie: This was great gig. I'd seen Five Mile Drive recently at a gig and enjoyed them a lot. A young brash band with great potential and so I was looking forward to seeing them again at close quarters. When we arrived we found out their drummer was away on holiday and they were planning on playing an acoustic set. Great it was too, featuring a mixture of original and cover numbers including a couple of Nivana ditties. We made a last minute decision to let in people to this gig for free and it really made the evening with a big crowd and lots of rocking and rucking going on down the front. Cool. And a great sound (Cheers Dan) as always from this venue.
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 16. Thursday July 22nd 1999
Venue: The Jericho, Oxford.
Supporting: SerenOllie: This gig will stay mostly in my mind for the soundchecking. Seren's guitarist and most of their gear didn't turn up until 8pm. So after much hanging around waiting it was eventually decided that we would soundcheck first and then remove our gear and let them soundcheck and then put our equipment back ready for our set. Anyway all's well that ends well I suppose and the gig was pretty good. Seren were pretty good, rocking with a female vocalist with a fine set of lungs. Hard to say what they sound like but worth checking out.
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide.

- 17. Saturday August 21st 1999
Venue: The Point, Oxford.
Supporting: Your Song with
Holy Roman Empire, Whispering Bob, Stars of Track & Field, ATL and OvergroundOllie: We had a fantastic time at the 'Your Song' covers night gig, a hot, sweaty Saturday night at the Point. We got the second to last spot of the evening and played Ace of Spades (Motorhead), Tush (ZZ Top), Remedy (Black Crowes), and You Really Got Me (Kinks/Halen). We played the gig as a 4-piece with our friend Ben helping out on lead guitar. Thanks Ben, you're a star. The place was heaving and we got a great reception.
Nick: There were seven bands playing on the night and we were on second from last. Stars of track and Field (3rd on) were great, starting with "Run to the Hills" and finally killing an old Tom Jones number. ATL performed a memorable set with a very talented singing glove puppet, all done wearing plastic ponchos and straw hats with lights in the top. Bearing in mind the lack of Oxygen and the heat (130 degrees F!), they did extremely well! I had a little work to do with the drum kit as the guy who had played it before me was a short arse! After 10 minutes of sweaty panic we all convened in the small cupboard beside the stage (the dressing room!). The compare was a little strange to say the least, a little like Richard OBrien from the Crystal Maze. Before we knew it we were pounding through 'The Ace of Spades' and straight into 'Tush'. This was unfortunate for me and Ollie, Ben (our guest guitarist) began the song as practised and I missed my Que. because I couldnt hear the stage sound. Also, Ollie's mic stand had moved and as he stepped forward to reposition it the leads were pulled out of his pedal board! This sort of thing never comes across on stage so the audience would see it, thank god, but can be quite normal! After Tush we were greeted with a massive cheer from the by now 200+ audience. Before we knew what was happening "Remedy" and "You Really Got Me" were gone and we had to get off the stage for the next act. We played quite well and whats better was the feedback we later received from the people either, that we knew, or complete strangers who had seen us for the first time that night. Everyone really enjoyed the show and the songs we played.
Set List: Ace of Spades, Tush, Remedy, You Really Got Me.
Back
Bob: First gig in a long while certainly playing our own songs and it showed! The evening began with Cobalt 60s debut. Their first gig as a band and the first gig ever for three out of the four members. All things considered you couldnt fault their set. Second up were Perfect 10. I caught this band the previous Saturday supporting a local favourite band of mine, Wingnut. Perfect 10 have accessible material. They enjoyed themselves on stage and theyre quite tight. For their young age theyre talented musicians too. They recently relocated to Oxford, living in a house together, so Im sure well see more of them soon. When we finally appeared, we cracked into our usual set. I couldnt help smiling throughout, as for us things were very loose and quite amusing. Paul and I were competing for volume, I kept dropping plectrums and I kept forgetting the titles of our songs and the names of the band that supported us. I also forgot when our forthcoming gig dates were. Saying that the set wasnt a struggle it was just extremely relaxed. We tried another new number tonight, Performance which went down a treat. Its de-tuned and has a solid groove to it. It was by far the best song we played all evening. It was quite nice to see a few familiar faces there too. The general feedback was very positive. Everyone appeared to enjoy the casualness of the whole event including us. All in all its nice to just be gigging again.
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide, Performance.

Bob: Breaking onto new turf following an amusing first gig of the season in Oxford, Flume find themselves in Swindon. The George felt familiar although the locals didnt. The George reminds me of the many cosy Pubs Ive played where youre left to run the whole show: The timing, the equipment and the P.A (Ollies old P.A. that we use for rehearsing, no less!). To be perfectly modest, we surprised ourselves with the fantastic balance of loud sound. Cobalt 60 joined us again for their second gig ever and they outperformed themselves in comparison to the night before. With a much better sound, a little more confidence and a totally out of town venue many others and I were quietly impressed. Tonights gig for Flume was a considerably better performance than the night before. The songs were tight, the sound was great and each song rolled into the next beautifully. The new song, Performance wasnt quite as good as the night before but we were well accepted, we got paid and we all went home pretty content with the whole show. Despite requests for Fish (the water residing ones as opposed to the ex-Marillion singer its a local thing apparently), The George was a different experience for Flume and a new one for the Cobalt 60 guys .
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide, Performance.

Nick: Friday 29th October and one year after the madness and mayhem at the last Halloween night, Flume embark on another fun packed evening at the Hollybush (the Pit) in Witney. Its a double headline with Five Mile Drive providing the later entertainment! As only proper for such an evening we had to do the make-up bit and all looking like death with devils horns (Kiss look-a-likes) we fired into the set! Infinite, Believe, Sometime, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide and to end it all a new track "Performance" which we didn't play as well as usual but it was alright! The crowd was great, seemed to like the noise we made and was quite big for The Pit. Five Mile Drive are very Nirvana orientated with some of their own material thrown in for good measure. It was good to see the whole band unlike last time when their drummer was in the states and they were forced to play a very good acoustic set. Nice one guys!
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide, Performance.

Bob: Following our last gig for Halloween. This was another traditional occasion, Bonfire night. The evenings treason began with friends. Talented local band, Vade Mecum. Kicking up a stir in Wiltshire with funky grooves that stretch from Chilli Pepper ditties to Rage against the Machine, almost grunge-like, Rock. Adding fuel to the fire we appeared and played a pretty tight and solid 40-minute set. Shame none of our friends from Oxford were here to share it with us. Occasional gestures to turn the bass down gave a little creative restraint performance wise but we all had fun playing. Its easy to forget were playing on the floor of a Pub and not at a Venue so there is always that tendency to crank it. Saying that though, I was outside briefly during Vades set and the Pub windows were shaking, which definitely beats your biggest firework display and trying to write your name with a sparkler in the cold miserable November rain. Our new song, Performance is coming on and sounded a treat as it becomes more stomping the more we play it. Old favourite Sweet sounded really good tonight too. Other than being desperate for a slash, having missed the turning to the Service station on the M4 on the way home I think, all-in-all, this years Firework night wasnt a bad one even if we didnt see that many.
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide, Performance.

- 22. Saturday 13th November, 1999
Venue: The Jericho, Oxford
Supported by: Fuse, Cobalt 60
PicturesBob: I always remember the Jericho (or Jericho Tavern as it was back then) from my mid-teens. I saw so many great bands back in the early Nineties I always feel a small sense of pleasure treading the same boards as they. Theres something about this place which makes me feel comfortable, like Im at home, despite the inclusion of Chandeliers from when it was briefly some kind of Bistro. Admittedly it has never been the same since but to me its still the place of many fond memories. Its funny how things change though. Back then it was 49p cans of Co-op special brew down by the river beforehand, yet last night I was mixing Labatts Lager, bottles and bottles of red wine and many vodka cocktails at Dinner. And tonight (Michael) I paid for it. Despite feeling like I had been kicked-boxed in the stomach I really did enjoy the whole event. I was pleasantly surprised to see Spike (once of the now closed Dolly) engineering. Many others and I were noticeably impressed with the fantastic sound he managed to produce on the P.A., which I am told, he had never worked with before.
First up were recent Flume support favourites, Cobalt 60. Considering this is their third gig ever their confidence, presence and musical togetherness has significantly improved. Songs such as Lights Out simply grooved.
Fuse were second up and brought a fresh collection of powerful, classic, melodic rock to Oxford. Again a good sound and good songs with some corking solos making me want to reach for the air guitar.
Shortly after ten we were up and we kicked in with Infinite. Tonight, on stage, the music was rocking. It was loud and you could really feel it. I could feel Ollies Bass thundering through my feet and on the few occasions I turned around it was nice to see Nick and Ollie sweating like fresh BK employees. My stomach was twisting tighter and halfway through the set I was struggling to bellow out without blowing out. Nevertheless, Easy, Sometime and On My Own all really rocked tonight. I take it the other tunes did too as the three young non-stop lady dancers in the corner were certainly having some fun! Finishing again with Performance Nick kindly tried something new which made it interesting. We were then requested by a few for an Encore that caught us out slightly (as we had played all of our material!). So we had another crack at Infinite and then it was definitely time to call it a night. Despite my minor ailment it was a really good evening watching our friends good bands and having the opportunity to play ourselves in front of a fair few people. Other than Alka-Seltzer theres not a lot more you can ask for. A thanks definitely goes to Spike who provided a tremendous sound.Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide, Performance, Infinite.

Ollie: This was a gig that I was looking forward to as soon as it was booked. King Prawn were a band who had blown me away last time I'd seen them and had a reputation in Oxford that meant this gig was going to be packed to the gills.
By the time the other two bands had finished soundchecking things were getting tight and so our own soundcheck was very hasty. Luckily engineer Mac is the master of the two minute soundcheck and managed to get us a great sound. The three band bill meant that we were on at the unusually early time of 8.30 pm and although there was already a pretty decent crowd by then. Some of our own fans who we knew were coming still had not arrived, but it seemed that by the end of the first two songs everyone had got in. We had worked out a special set list for tonight dropping Some Time and Sweet to make a short driving set of thirty minutes and it really paid dividends. Everyone in the band seemed really fired up and I had a blast. If this is the last gig we play this year it will worthy of remembrance.
I didn't watch too much of Ex Cathedra to be honest, but they had a cool sax thing going. The air conditioning has been broken at this venue for a while now and it sure gets hot. So I took some time out to cool down before again entering the inferno to witness King Prawn. I can only say they were fabulous. They play a cool ska come hardcore/rap type thing that brings comparisons to The Clash, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Senser. They put on a superb show too, swapping instruments and featuring horns and an amazingly weird bass player. Great. Catch this band if you can.Set List: On My Own, Believe, Bench, Easy, Infinite, Provide, Performance.

Ollie: A new venue for Flume and it was a pleasant surprise. Bob had played here before in one of his old bands but he hadn't told me what to expect. It was a nice sized venue with a large low stage and a vocal PA. Vade Mecum who had set up the gig were headlining and it was good to meet up with them again. The great thing about playing with them is that they have the same 3-piece line-up, so it makes setting up and soundchecks so much easier and gives more room on stage. I was a tad nervous about the gig as we hadn't played for a while and as fired up the backline ready to play the electricity tripped, and again, and again. Was this going to be one of those nights? But no, once we up and running things went fine. Maybe not the tightest gig we've ever played but the substantial crowd were grooving and you can ask for more.
Set List: On My Own, Believe, Bench, Easy, Infinite, Provide, Performance.
Back
Ollie: Another new venue. Another great venue. This gig was organised by Nick who had once lived in Hungerford for a while. We asked the Lads from Perfect 10 to come down and support us who are for my money one of the best bands in Oxford at the moment and still so young! They played a mixture of cool covers and their own material including the great 'Anticipation'. The venue was fairly big and as its name suggests is straight off Hungerford station. Having been fired up by the gig we had played the night before I was itching to play this one and I got the distinct impressions that Bob & Nick felt the same. Right from the word go the Flume were firing on all cylinders and the large crowd were right behind us. Definitely a Top Gig.
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide, Performance.

Ollie: Back at the Swan with Perfect 10 who get better every time I see them. We decided to play first this time as their set is so much longer than ours. I spent the time in-between our sound check and set putting a new stereo into my van, one way to while away the time! Good gig using our own P.A. which did a great job and sounded cool. Bob broke a string at the end of Bench but luckily had his spare guitar with him. During Perfect 10's set their bassist also broke a string so I let him use my bass for the rest of their set.
Set List: Infinite, Believe, Some Time, Easy, Bench, Sweet, On My Own, Provide, Performance.
