The recording of 'Believe'
Well another date in the studio………... Its always a bit nerve racking because everything you do gets scrutinised by all the other members of the Band and the producer. Ollie and Bob are the best critics, they listen to what I have played and then ask me if I think its OK before slating it! (only joking guys!). We got to the studio on the Saturday night to rehearse and set all the kit up. Mike (engineer) was keen as usual to Mic all the drums up ready to record. It took about 2 hours before we got a good sound. The rehearsal went well and before we knew it, it was 10.30pm. Bob and I slipped off for a couple of jars and a curry, late night! I stayed at bobs. Breakfast was 2 sausage sandwiches and a great cuppa for this wiry and slightly hung over drummer, it was exactly what I needed.
We had a new guy coming today who I asked along because I had worked with him before and he had captured a brilliant drum sound. Adam has got a good ear and a lot of experience in the recording game. He arrived at around 10ish and immediately started to re-Mic the kit.
He tried different Mics on drums and different positions for the Mics, in the end I had four more than I started with but the raw sound that he managed to get was magic. At around one thirty we started getting some takes. By this time I was knackered and really hungry, I just wanted to go home. I had been playing for around two and a half-hours now non-stop. Anyway we managed to get three or four good takes and went into the button room to listen through them and choose a take. After this, we (me and Bob) had lunch while Ollie cut the bass tracks. We managed to get some guitars on the tape just before we had to pack up. The day was very hard work, I was mega tired. Adam worked out really well, his experience and knowledge had paid off. He worked very well with Mike and they both enjoyed themselves. A good day was had by all! I have had a listen to the new song as we recorded it and I am very excited about finishing and releasing it, Watch this space!!
